3 Different Ways to Use Subway Tile

Hey everyone and happy Tuesday! Over on Instagram, we started a little series called Tile Tuesday and it’s about something everyone involved in the design industry loves: tile.

#TileTuesday is all about showing off some of the beautiful tile we’ve used in past projects or some amazing tile that’s up and coming! With that being said, to kick off our first Tile Tuesday post here are 3 Different Ways to Use Subway Tile featuring some our very own projects.

1. Horizontal Running Bond - Ombré

At River & Post Restaurant + Rooftop Lounge we chose to use a simple horizontal running bond tile behind the restaurant bar. This gives the wall a very wide and spacious appearance. To add more visual interest to this timeless look, three coordinating colors were specified to create an ombré affect. We chose to use Crossville Studios, one of our favorite tile distributors. All three tiles are from the Soho Private Collection: white, grey and taupe.

2. Vertical Running Bond

In the Julington Creek Plantation Clubhouse we chose to use a modern vertical running bond tile behind the cafe counter. Stacking your subway tile this way produces a tall and lengthy appearance. The beautiful glossy ceramic tile is from Crossville’s - Handwritten Collection. Its’ hand painted, glossy style contrasts perfectly with the patterned concrete tile at the face of the bar.

3. Horizontal Running Bond - Alternating Colors

At the Markland Clubhouse in St. Augustine we used a horizontal running bond tile in the restrooms. However, we alternated finish styles (matte and glossy) creating a striped appearance, which was perfect for this coastal themed clubhouse. The tile is also from Crossville but is apart of the Color By Numbers Collection in the Three Hour Tour colors: matte and glossy.
